
Asian Tech Press (Nov 15) -- Chinese automaker BYD Co Ltd (002594.SZ)'s Japan unit announced the launch of its mid-size electric bus J7 at a conference in Tokyo on Tuesday.
The J7 has a range of 250 kilometers on a single charge and is priced at 36.5 million yen ($240,000).
Reservations for the model are set to start on January 1, 2024, and deliveries are due to begin in the fall of 2025.
The Chinese car maker entered the Japanese electric bus market in 2015 with the delivery of five e-buses in Kyoto, Japan.
BYD has now captured over 70% of the Japanese electric bus market, and plans to achieve cumulative sales of 4,000 units in Japan by 2030.
