
Asian Tech Press (Nov 21) -- TSMC said it is evaluating the possibility of setting up a second chip plant in Japan in response market rumors that it plans to build a third fab in Japan.
Bloomberg reported on Tuesday that TSMC is considering building a third factory in Kumamoto prefecture in southern Japan to produce advanced 3-nanometer chips.
TSMC is currently building its first chip factory in Japan's Kumamoto Prefecture, which will make lower-performance chips. And earlier there was news that TSMC was also planning to build a second plant in Japan.
In response, TSMC said Tuesday that it is focusing on evaluating the possibility of setting up a second fab in Japan and has no more information to share at this time.
